Every Last Word : A journey of growth, acceptance and love

'Every Last Word' is got to be the best book I've read in a while. It tells the story of Sam, a girl with OCD. She has a group of friends who call themselves Crazy Eights, with whom she was close since childhood but now she is the odd girl out. She goes to therapy, takes medication and keeps her OCD a well-hidden secret. Sam's life changed when she met a girl named Caroline. Eventually, Sam opened up to her and learnt that Caroline was struggling too, with depression. One day, shortly after they first met, Caroline took her to a secret place called Poet's Corner. There, for the first time in life, Sam found that she was passionate about poetry. She wanted to join the poets.  But there was AJ, a guitarist, singer and lyricist, who didn’t want her to be a member. Sam was mesmerised by AJ's performance, she didn’t realize at first why AJ resented her. When she did realize, guilt overflowed her. She apologised to AJ, in her way - by writing a poem. It took him a wh...

Him, his cat, and a tale of love

Once in a while, while wandering around in the vast world of books, you encounter one book that shakes your feelings to the core. And that feeling may fade over time, but it never completely goes away. A book that's so heartwarming that you want to keep it close to your heart, at the same time so heartwrenching that you have a hard time re-reading it. An one-of-a-kind emotional book. The Travelling Cat Chronicles is one of those books. As stated in the synopsis, it is story about a cat travelling with his owner from the cat's point of view. Which part interested me? The fact that despite loving his cat with all his heart, he was going to give the away due to unavoidable circumstances. What could this 'unavoidable circumstances' be? With this question in my mind, I sat down to read The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa. As I continued, I was immersed into the story. What unfolded before me was heartwarming tales of love. Love between pet and its owner. Familial...

The Tale of The Book Thief

“This is the tale of the book thief, as narrated by death. And when death tells a story, you really have to listen.” Not the book. Just a few lines written behind the cover page. But they are enough to catch my attention. In The Book Thief, the author Markus Zusak told us a story from Death’s point of view. Story of a young girl. Story of words. Story of book thievery. Story of the cruelty of the World War I and II.   The story of The Book Thief started when Liesel Merminger, the girl who was later turned out to be the book thief, was on a journey by train with her mother and younger brother. During the journey, her brother died in front of her eyes, which left a permanent scar in her heart. Later, when her brother was buried, she picked up a book which was found beside the grave. It was A Grave-digger’s Handbook. That was when the journey of the book thief began. The story took place in Himmel Street, Germany. Liesel was foster daughter of Hans Hubermann, who was a painter, a...
